Σύμφωνα με τους επιστήμονες του Συλλόγου για την προστασίας της θαλάσσιας χελώνας “ΑΡΧΕΛΩΝ”, θα πρέπει να ήρθε από τη βόρεια Αδριατική ή τον Κόλπο Γκαμπές στην Τυνησία, διανύοντας απόσταση πάνω από 1.000 χιλιόμετρα. Όμως ένα δίχτυ ψαρά την εμπόδισε να ολοκληρώσει τον φετινό αλλά και τους επόμενους κύκλους αναπαραγωγής της.

Η αλιεία αποτελεί την κυριότερη απειλή για τις θαλάσσιες χελώνες σ’ όλο τον κόσμο. Οι χελώνες αναπνέουν με πνεύμονες, άρα όταν μπλέκονται σε δίχτυα και παραγάδια, πνίγονται.
