Είναι ο πρώτος Ασπροπάρης της χρονιάς που έφτασε σήμερα στα Μετέωρα! Πριν λίγες ώρες ειδοποίησε ένας κτηνοτρόφος ότι ο αρσενικός Ασπροπάρης, του τελευταίου ζευγαριού που έχει απομείνει στα Μετέωρα, τα κατάφερε και φέτος και έφτασε στον αγαπημένο του Μετεωρίτικο βράχο!
Ο Ασπροπάρης, που είναι είδος γύπα, στην Ελλάδα, είναι πλέον εξαιρετικά σπάνιος, και οι πληθυσμοί του βαίνουν επικίνδυνα μειούμενοι.
Ο τόπος μας είναι περιοχή αναπαραγωγής για τον Ασπροπάρη ο οποίος, μερικές φορές μπορεί να καλύψει έως και 500 χιλιόμετρα σε μία ημέρα μέχρι να φτάσει από το νότιο άκρο της Σαχάρας, συνολικά 3.500- 5.500 χιλιόμετρα στην Ελλάδα…
Έρχεται για να αναπαραχθεί στα μέσα Μαρτίου και, φεύγει αργά το Σεπτέμβριο για την Αφρική και την Αραβία, όπου και ξεχειμωνιάζει. Η φωτογραφία του Δημήτρη Βαβύλη αναδημοσιεύεται από την Ελληνική Ορνιθολογική Εταιρεία.
