Το πρώτο χρυσό μετάλλιο για την Ελλάδα στους Παραολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Τόκιο, κατέκτησε ο Θανάσης Γκαβέλας. Ο 22χρονος Έλληνας Παραολυμπιονίκης πήρε την πρώτη θέση στον τελικό των 100 μέτρων Τ11 στον στίβο, μαζί με τον Σωτήρη Γκαραγκάνη που είναι ο συνοδός του. Μάλιστα τερμάτισε σε χρόνο 10.82 που αποτελεί παγκόσμιο ρεκόρ!
Αυτό είναι το όγδοο μετάλλιο της Ελλάδας στους Παραολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Τόκιο. Η χώρα μας έχει κατακτήσει ακόμα δύο αργυρά και πέντε χάλκινα μετάλλια.
