Μάρτυρες της γέννησης ενός θαλάσσιου λέοντα υπήρξαν τα μέλη αποστολής του National Geographic στα νησιά Galapagos, όπου όπως όλοι ανέφεραν χαρακτηριστικά, έμειναν άφωνοι και εκστατικοί μπροστά σε αυτή τη διαδικασία – θαύμα, σε αυτό το θαύμα της ίδιας της ζωής!
Ακόμη και κατά τη διάρκεια της ωδίνης της γέννας, η μητέρα παρέμεινε απτόητη από την παρουσία των ανθρώπων γύρω της και έφερε στον κόσμο ένα υπέροχο μικρό.
Οι Θαλάσσιοι λέοντες είναι θαλάσσια θηλαστικά της οικογένειας Otariidae, που χαρακτηρίζονται από πτερύγια αυτιών, μακριά εμπρόσθια πτερύγια, κοντές, λεπτές τρίχες και την ικανότητα να περπατάνε με τα τέσσερα! Η κατανομή τους εκτείνεται από τα υποαρκτικά στα τροπικά ύδατα όλων των ωκεανών και στο Βόρειο και στο Νότιο Ημισφαίριο, εξαιρουμένου του Ατλαντικού Ωκεανού. Πηγή, nationalgeographic. com.
