Η Μονάδα Διαχείρισης Εθνικών Πάρκων Δέλτα Έβρου και Δαδιάς υλοποιεί πρόγραμμα παρακολούθησης των Λευκοπελαργών της ευρύτερης περιοχής του Δέλτα Έβρου, με καταγραφές και τοποθέτηση δαχτυλιδιών και πομπών, για πάνω από δεκαπέντε χρόνια.
Για τη δακτυλίωση χρησιμοποιούνται ειδικά δακτυλίδια τύπου ELSA, τα οποία είναι πλαστικά, διαρκούν εφ’ όρου ζωής και δίνουν τη δυνατότητα παρατήρησης από απόσταση με κιάλια ή τηλεσκόπιο.
Σημαντικό επίτευγμα της προσπάθειας της Μονάδας Διαχείρισης, αποτελεί η ανακήρυξη και βράβευση του οικισμού Πόρος, στις Φέρες, ως το μοναδικό ελληνικό «Χωριό των Πελαργών», από τον ευρωπαϊκό οργανισμό Euronature. Φωτογραφία από Δέλτα Έβρου.
