Είναι μια από τις σημαντικότερες παραλίες ωοτοκίας της θαλάσσιας χελώνας Caretta caretta στην Ελλάδα. Η περιοχή προστατεύεται καθώς ανήκει στο Εθνικό Θαλάσσιο Πάρκο, και η παραλία συγκεκριμένα αποτελεί τη ζώνη Α προστασίας. Γι αυτό και η περιοχή αυτή έχει μεγάλη οικολογική αξία.
