Το κορυφαίο άγαλμα «Η Ελληνίδα μάνα», του σπουδαίου γλύπτη Χρήστου Καπράλου, κοσμεί τον περίβολο του ελληνικού Κοινοβουλίου. Το 2003, η Βουλή αποφάσισε να προβεί σε μια πράξη υψηλού συμβολισμού, τοποθετώντας το επιβλητικό άγαλμα στο ανατολικό μέρος του Mεγάρου.
Είναι αφιερωμένο στην πιο ιερή μορφή της ανθρώπινης ύπαρξης, τη μάνα. Στην Ελληνίδα μάνα, στην κάθε μάνα σ’ όλη τη Γη…
Πρόκειται για την Ευγενία Καπράλου, τη μητέρα και μοντέλο του γλύπτη. Η «κυρα-Βγενά», όπως την αποκαλούσαν, έζησε πολύ φτωχικά παιδικά χρόνια. Παντρεύτηκε τον Θόδωρο Καπράλο και μαζί απέκτησαν τρία παιδιά. Ήταν μια μάνα λαϊκή και σκληρά εργαζόμενη (καπνοφύτισσα). Η κυρα-Βγενά στήριξε με πάθος και επιμονή τον γλύπτη υιό της. Ήταν εκείνη που όχι μόνο τον εμψύχωνε και τον στήριζε ηθικά, αλλά στεκόταν ακίνητη για ώρες για να την αποτυπώσει ο Χρήστος Καπράλος.
