Βλέπετε την πλατεία Σπιανάδα, που βρίσκεται εντός της πόλεως της Κέρκυρας. Αποτελεί τη μεγαλύτερη, ως προς το μέγεθος, πλατεία της Ελλάδας. Εκτείνεται σε έκταση 42.000 τμ με περίμετρο περίπου 950 μέτρων, ανάμεσα από το Παλιό Φρούριο και την Παλιά Πόλη.
Εκτός από την όψη της πλατείας εντυπωσιακή είναι επίσης και η ιστορία της. Το όνομα της προέρχεται από το ιταλικό “spianare” που σημαίνει ισοπεδώνω και αυτό γιατί δημιουργήθηκε κατά τον 16ο-17ο αιώνα, όταν οι Βενετοί αποφάσισαν να γκρεμίσουν τα κτήρια που βρίσκονταν περιμετρικά του Φρουρίου ώστε να αυξηθεί η ορατότητα αλλά και να υπάρχει μεγάλο πεδίο βολής για τους αμυνόμενους.
Έτσι η Σπιανάδα ανοίχθηκε μπροστά από το Παλιό Φρούριο μέσα σε 2,5 χρόνια, με την ισοπέδωση περίπου 2.500 σπιτιών και έγινε επίπεδη (spianata).
Αποτελεί ένα από τα πλέον κεντρικά και, ταυτόχρονα, δημοφιλή αξιοθέατα της πόλεως, καθώς και πόλο έλξης τουριστών.
