Το έκθεμα που βλέπετε φέρει τον τίτλο «Μινωικά χταπόδια»…
Πρόκειται για μια πήλινη κιβωτιόσχημη λάρνακα και τρεις ψευδόστομους αμφορείς του 13ου και του 12ου αι. π.Χ., που προέρχονται από την Κρήτη. Υπήρξαν προσφορές και “σκεύη θανάτου” για τους νεκρούς.
Μεγάλα ζωγραφιστά χταπόδια απλώνονται στις όψεις της λάρνακας και τυλίγουν σφιχτά τα σώματα των αγγείων. Αυτό εγείρει υποψίες στους αρχαιολόγους για τον αινιγματικό συμβολισμό του θαλάσσιου πλάσματος στη σφαίρα της μινωικής θεολογίας του θανάτου. Η λάρνακα προέρχεται από την Μινωική Συλλογή του Εθνικού Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου.
