Ήξερες ότι στην πραγματικότητα οι πολικές αρκούδες είναι μαύρες; Όπως σημειώνει η WWF, η γούνα τους είναι διαφανής και φαίνεται άσπρη από την αντανάκλαση του φωτός. Κάτω όμως από την πολύ χοντρή γούνα τους, έχουν μαύρο δέρμα.
Ερευνητές της Υπηρεσίας Αλιείας και Άγριας Ζωής των ΗΠΑ σε μελέτη τους εκτιμούν ότι θα υπάρξει μεγάλη απώλεια του πληθυσμού των πολικών αρκούδων, εξαιτίας των κλιματικών αλλαγών. Σύμφωνα με τους ερευνητές υπάρχει πιθανότητα άνω του 70% μέχρι το 2050 ο πληθυσμός των πολικών αρκούδων να έχει μειωθεί κατά 30%. Υπολογίζεται ότι αυτή την στιγμή υπάρχουν περίπου 26 χιλιάδες πολικές αρκούδες.
