Μία κολυμβήτρια από το Καναδά, ηλικίας 99 ετών, η Μπέτι Μπράσελ, κατέρριψε τρία παγκόσμια ρεκόρ την ίδια μέρα στην πόλη Σάανιτς του Καναδά!
Ολοκλήρωσε τα 400 μέτρα ελεύθερο σε 12 λεπτά και 50 δευτερόλεπτα – σχεδόν τέσσερα λεπτά λιγότερο από το προηγούμενο ρεκόρ- καισημείωσε τους καλύτερους χρόνους στα 50 μέτρα πρόσθιο και 50 μέτρα ύπτιο.
Η κάτοχος των ρεκόρ γεννήθηκε το 1924, στην Ολλανδία και έμαθε να κολυμπά στα κανάλια κοντά στο Άμστερνταμ. Μετακόμισε στον Καναδά το 1959 μαζί με τον σύζυγό της και άρχισε να ενδιαφέρεται ερασιτεχνικά για την κολύμβηση γύρω στα 60 της χρόνια, όταν συμμετείχε για πρώτη φορά στους Αγώνες Senior της Βρετανικής Κολούμπια.
Παρά το προχωρημένο της ηλικία και την προπόνηση δύο φορές την εβδομάδα, πιστεύει ότι είναι «τεμπέλα», ενώ δηλώνει επίσης ντροπαλή και λέει ότι προσπαθεί να συνηθίσει την προσοχή των Μέσων Ενημέρωσης.
