Βλέπετε το έργο ενός από τους κορυφαίους Έλληνες ζωγράφους του 19ου αιώνα, του Θεόδωρου Βρυζάκη με θέμα την Έξοδο του Μεσολογγίου.
Σαν σήμερα, τη νύχτα της 10ης Απριλίου 1826, οι επί μήνες πολιορκούμενοι Έλληνες στο Μεσολόγγι, αποφάσισαν την Έξοδο. Το σχέδιο τους όμως έγινε γνωστό στους Τούρκους, οι οποίοι αντέδρασαν με σφοδρότητα.
Χιλιάδες πολεμιστές και άμαχοι έχασαν τη ζωή τους. Χιλιάδες γυναίκες και παιδιά πουλήθηκαν στα σκλαβοπάζαρα της Κωνσταντινούπολης και της Αλεξάνδρειας. Μετά την πτώση του Μεσολογγίου το μέλλον διαγραφόταν ζοφερό για τους Έλληνες και η Επανάσταση έμοιαζε να σβήνει. Το γεγονός αυτό ωστόσο, συγκλόνισε την Ευρώπη και η ηρωική Έξοδος των τελευταίων υπερασπιστών της αναδείχτηκε σε σύμβολο του αγώνα μέχρις εσχάτων.
