Το έργο “Πλύστρες στη Βενετία”, λάδι σε μουσαμά, είναι του Γεώργιου Ροϊλού, ο οποίος απεβίωσε στις 28 Αυγούστου του 1928, στην Αθήνα.
Ήταν ένας από τους σημαντικότερους Έλληνες ζωγράφους της «Ομάδας του Μονάχου» με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον για τα ιστορικά θέματα και την προσωπογραφία.
Στους πίνακές του απεικόνισε ποικίλα θέματα: πολεμικά από τον Ελληνοτουρκικό πόλεμο του 1897 και τους Βαλκανικούς πολέμους 1912–13. Το έργο της ώριμης περιόδου του, και κυρίως οι τοπιογραφίες, δείχνουν ότι ο Ροϊλός προσπάθησε να εισάγει τον ιμπρεσιονισμό στην Ελλάδα. Εκτός από την προσωπογραφία και τις ιστορικές σκηνές, ο Ροϊλός ζωγράφισε θρησκευτικά και μυθολογικά θέματα, ηθογραφίες και νεκρές φύσεις, ενώ ασχολήθηκε και με τη χαλκογραφία και τη γελοιογραφία. Το έργο της φωτογραφίας είναι από τη Συλλογή του Ιδρύματος Ε. Κουτλίδη και εκτίθεται στην Κουμαντάρειο Πινακοθήκη, στην Σπάρτη.
