Ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας ζήτησε σήμερα να ανασταλεί σε όλο τον κόσμο η πώληση άγριων, ζωντανών θηλαστικών σε αγορές τροφίμων, καθώς υπάρχει μεγάλος κίνδυνος να μεταδώσουν στους ανθρώπους νέες μολυσματικές ασθένειες.
“ Τα ζώα, κυρίως τα άγρια, αποτελούν την πηγή περισσότερου από το 70% όλων των μολυσματικών ασθενειών που εμφανίζονται στους ανθρώπους και πολλές από αυτές προκαλούνται από νέους ιούς”, υπογράμμισε ο ΠΟΥ.
Η μετάδοση του νέου κορωνοϊού στον άνθρωπο μέσω κάποιου ζώου θεωρείται μια από τις πιο πιθανές θεωρίες για την προέλευσή του. Στην πρόσφατη έκθεσή τους εμπειρογνώμονες του οργανισμού που μετέβησαν στην Κίνα αναφέρουν ότι η αγορά της Ουχάν, της κινεζικής πόλης όπου εμφανίστηκαν για πρώτη φορά κρούσματα της covid-19, φαίνεται ότι ήταν ένα από τα βασικότερα σημεία μετάδοσης της ασθένειας στα τέλη του 2019.
