Η οδός Ερμού είναι από τις πρώτες οδικές αρτηρίες που σχεδιάστηκαν στη σύγχρονη Αθήνα. Είναι η πέμπτη ακριβότερη εμπορική περιοχή στην Ευρώπη και η δέκατη στον κόσμο.
Η οδός Ερμού έχει αδελφοποιηθεί με την οδό Okurayama στο νομό Kanagawa της Ιαπωνίας από το 1988.
