Ο Ταυροκαρχαρίας είναι ένα από τα είδη καρχαριών που υπάρχει στις ελληνικές θάλασσες. Ο ελληνικός πληθυσμός του είδους έχει χαρακτηριστεί ως Κρισίμως κινδυνεύων από το Ελληνικό Κόκκινο Βιβλίο, με φθίνουσα τάση πληθυσμού.
Μπορεί να φτάσει τα 320 εκατοστά σε μήκος και τρέφεται με καρκινοειδή, κεφαλόποδα, ψάρια, σαλάχια και μικρότερους καρχαρίες, ενώ ζει σε βάθη μέχρι 200 μέτρα, όπως σημειώνει η περιβαλλοντική οργάνωση isea.
Οι ελληνικές θάλασσες φιλοξενούν σημαντική βιοποικιλότητα χονδριχθύων με τουλάχιστον 35 είδη καρχαριών, 31 είδη βάτων και ενός είδους χίμαιρας να έχουν καταγραφεί έως σήμερα!
Οι καρχαρίες αποτελούν οργανισμούς ιδιαίτερης σημασίας, όντας ανώτεροι θηρευτές και διαδραματίζουν σημαντικό ρόλο στη διατήρηση της ισορροπίας των θαλάσσιων οικοσυστημάτων!
